The Duncan MacRae company made pipes in Glasgow from 1897-1952. Despite Duncan MacRae being a furniture maker and not a piper, he made remarkable pipes that are sought after today for their robust sound and steadiness. Master piper Stuart Liddell plays an early set of MacRae pipes with a legendary sound, and McCallum Bagpipes produces a wildly popular reproduction line modelled after Stuart’s pipes. (The company also produces a matching MacRae practice chanter).
